The last story of Book Week and Mother Language Week was a story in English. Sophie read us Room on the Broom. We had a great discussion about whether this was a kind or a mean witch and we talked about what we would do if we were in her position. It was a lovely finish to a most successful week! Jurgita read us a Lithuanian story about the tortoise who wanted to find a mate but was always too slow. The illustrations in the book are beautiful and we really enjoyed the story, though we felt sad for the poor tortoise. Sandra visited us on Friday and read us a beautiful story in Catalan. Sandra was very interested to hear all about our own mother languages and gave everyone a chance to tell her about their language. We had lots of questions about the story she read, which was about how a very hairy rhino and a bald flamingo helped each other out! What a lovely morning we had with Julia and Filip's dad, grandad and grandma! Following the story that Peter read, there was a great discussion in Polish. Having three native Polish speakers in the room was so wonderful and gave every child a chance to speak and to be heard and answered in their own mother language. There's something special about having grandparents in the school and something extra-special about ones that travel across many countries to do it! dziękuję! Would you like to receive notes from us via e-mail instead of on paper? Sign up here.
You would be helping the school by: - saving paper and printing costs - saving classroom time distributing notes You would be helping yourself by: - making sure notes are not lost along the way - you have responsibility for notes and are not depending on a child to bring them - no more finding notes crumpled at the bottom of the school-bag! - less recycling and waste for you You would be helping our planet by: - reducing paper usage Give it a try! On Tuesday afternoon, Kamila read us a Grimm tale in Polish. It was a great tale about three brothers, the magic items they owned and what happened when they lost them.
Our very special Mother Language and Book Week has started!
We have lots of stories being read this week by parents in lots of languages - Polish, Lithuanian, Spanish, Catalan, English and Irish! The very important message is: Speaking with your child in your own language is really, really important! We are still taking names for all classes - Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First Class and Second Class - for this September.
Simply complete our pre-enrolment form. Do you know anyone new to the area or looking for a school place? Tell them about us - not everyone knows about us. Thanks! We are absolutely thrilled to announce yet another after-school class at Citywest ETNS. Ole School of Languages will be teaching Spanish to our pupils at an after-school class on Thursdays, starting on 28th February.
Ana and Cristina will visit the school next week to give a taster lesson to the children. It promises to be an interesting way of teaching as they use art, songs and games to teach the language. |
